Cornelius Stone, also known as Corny, and sometimes Neil, is one of Kaye's human friends who is dragged into the world of the fey.
Physical Description[]
Corny is described as tall and skinny, with brown hair that is later dyed black. He describes himself as being ugly and having a big nose.
Personality[]
Corny is, for lack of a better word, weird. He reads manga, he keeps to himself, and in the beginning of Tithe, he's described as having concerning, unhinged fantasies. Despite this, he's kind and loyal, and all he wants is to fit somewhere. His friendship with Kaye seems to steady him; when he discovers that she's a pixie, rather than push her away or react in fear, he offers her his help immediately.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Corny is from a trailer park in Long Branch, New Jersey where he grew up with his mom, step-father, and sister Janet. His mother always had a strong interest in Star Trek, which Corny is also intimately familiar with, but he has his own niche interests. He's a tech enthusiast, a voracious reader, and a collector of comics and manga, especially Shonen-ai, which is how Kaye learns he is openly gay. He worked at a gas station and drove a white Chevrolet. He frequently thought of driving off and never coming back.
Learning about faeries[]
As Kaye's relationship with Janet became strained, an unexpected bond formed between her and Corny. He was the only person she could confide in about her true identity as a faerie, and they navigated the hidden world of fay together.
During a drunken revel under the hill, Corny met Nephamael, a faerie knight whom he eventually formed a short-lived and unhealthy relationship with. Nephamael controlled Corny through the drug-like effect of faerie fruit, for which Corny eventually killed him.
Fighting back[]
After his experience with Nephamael, Corny starts to cope with his trauma in a very unhealthy way.
Relationships[]
Romantic[]
Nephamael[]
They met at a faery revel. Nephamael took Corny as his plaything shortly thereafter, enthralling him with faerie fruit. Though the relationship was short, it left a lasting impact on Corny, causing him to become obsessed with finding a way to prevent something of the sort from ever happening to him again.
Luis[]
At first, the relationship between Corny and Luis is strained. Corny doesn't trust Luis, and Luis doesn't trust Corny. After the death of Luis' brother, Luis reveals that he likes Corny. By the end of Ironside, the two are a couple.
Family[]
Janet[]
Janet was Corny's younger sister, and seemed rather antagonistic towards him. In their brief interactions in Tithe, they bickered like normal siblings. He was devastated by Janet's death.
Friends[]
Kaye[]
Kaye is Corny's best friend, despite or because of the fact that she was his sister's best friend. He is the first mortal that Kaye trusts to reveal the truth about her faery heritage to, which forms a strong bond between them. In Ironside, when Kaye apologizes to Corny for dragging him into faery problems, he tells her that she's his people. They both love each other very much, and both trust the other completely.
